I had the pleasure of meeting Anna Brudzińska when she was on her third year of studies. She appeared in our workshop of painting and drawing – through a coincidence, I think. Sculpture being her main, she also wanted to try her hand in our studio. Did she succeed?
At first there was a slight problem, because Anna approached her tasks very individually and categorically. Later on, however, she managed to win others and me over to her vision of art.
Now Anna Brudzińska presents her first individual exhibition, as a graduate of the Department of Sculpture at the Wrocław Academy of Fine Arts. One is tempted to complement this statement: and also a graduate of the Department of Painting. Why? First, because during her final exam she showed not only spatial compositions but also several huge paintings of thick, uniform matter, totally conquering the space around them, creating an open continuum of colour. Second, because in her cyclical compositions Blue Box with claustrophobic, closed blue space and branches of blue trees she stressed the colour, which emanated from her pieces: uncommon blue, the blue of the sky. These two examples are enough to prove how close each other the space and the painting matter are in Anna Brudzińska`s art.
Now wonder that it is difficult to describe unanimously the profession of the artist perhaps she is a sculptor, perhaps a painter. I wonder what her future career will reveal. Anna Brudzińska has passed the stage of individual investigations based on accumulated artistic and personal experience…
The history of art tells us that the artist is never satisfied with the results he has obtained hitherto, but constantly strives to find a complementing measure, which will fill his art and life with meaning. Art can extend life to its extreme limits; it can mean experience, a mystery fulfilling only at the moment when emotions open to the experience of absolute reality. Such a mystical inclination can be noticed in Anna Brudzińska`s works. I wish the Sky Blue Artist to keep this perspective in her strife with space and colour. #annabrudzinska anna brudzinska anna brudzińska #anna.brudzinska
